Industry Courses

The Seafood Training Centre North Shields is managed by Anglo Scottish Seafish Training & offers a number of courses designed for everyone working in the seafood industry, from fishermen to fishmongers, processors to fish fryers - including all those wanting to work in the fishing industry, whether they are fishing, processing or serving etc.

We hold these courses in our purpose-built premises or at venues to suit & we train in all areas as long as we can set up a course for a minimum of 8 people. We already run courses which cover Edinburgh to Hartlepool & Cumbria right down the west coast.Most of our courses can be run in your area, this applies to Fishermen Processors and Cafe/Restaurant /Take aways. We have just run a succesful course in Safety Awareness for 10 Phillipino crewman and all passed. We also run courses in Polish & Lithuanian.

We have run more courses for fishermen and those involved in the industry this year than ever before and are constantly training the long term unemployed in Fish filleting, Food safety, Fishmongering etc. All of our courses run in accordance with the MCA, Environmental health, Seafish and the Open College Network and all of our courses are certified and accredited.

We now run an extremely succesful Taster Course for people who are interested in going to sea but dont want to take long term Apprenticeships. Our Taster Course is ideal for anyone considering the sea as a career and it covers all the basic Seafish MCA courses, Seamanship, Knots & Splices, Experience at Sea, Buoyage, Net mending, social skills necessary aboard vessels & being able to steer, let go and secure alongside a vessel, man overboard drills and care of the catch including basic Filleting skills. In fact everything you will need to shelp you secure a job as a deckhand. One of the best things about this course it you can do it without it affecting your benefits through the New Deal programme as we are an accredited training centre for working links and best of all it takes only 3 weeks to complete.

An opportunity exists for a number of candidates to complete the inshore Skippers ticket (16.5 metres & below). This is free.
