fish on deckThe Seafood Training Centre North Shields has been established since 2001 and is a key member of the Seafood Training Academy.

The Centre is managed by Anglo Scottish Seafish Training which is part of the national training organisation which covers all aspects of the Fishing Industry. The area of coverage includes Scotland, North East England and the North West of England.

Since 1st July 2008 Seafish has made funding available for certain courses covering catching, processing, and frying.

The Academy is a partnership between:

 • Billingsgate Seafood Training School , London
 • Seafood North West Training Centre, Fleetwood
 • Seafood Training Centre North East, North Shields
 • The National Federation of Fish Friers'  Training School, Leeds
 • Sea Fish Industry Authority, Hull
 • Humber Institute of Food and Fisheries (HIFF)
 
The Seafood Training Centre North Shields shares the aims of the partnership.

It is committed to raising the standards of training delivery, providing access to high quality, cost-effective training, promoting learning and development in the seafood industry, and providing access to information about the industry.

The Seafood Training Centre North Shields will promote training and learning opportunities; agree and set standards for training delivery; share best practice; achieve economies of scale; provide a single training source for industry. 

Our clients include individuals, schools, charity groups such as the Round Table and Rotary Club, and businesses in all trade areas from fish and chip shops to large processors.

We also assist Job Centres, BTCVs and Working Links to provide training courses for the unemployed; we regard this as especially important, and we have an excellent record in this field. Our trainees typically go on to find employment within the industry, and we take great satisfaction in seeing the positive results of our services.

We welcome enquiries from any organisation looking for training providers.

This includes schools and colleges, together with other career-based organisations catering for those over 16 years of age.
 
All our courses are fully certified and accredited. 


Schools programme

We also offer our own bespoke certified courses designed for individuals, and small groups of every kind. We have a specific training course aimed at schools (students 16 & over) which fits in with the curriculum for year 11 12 & 13. The course starts at 9am and finishes at 1pm and we take 6 students at one time who will from scratch, fillet and cook a piece of fish and go on to prepare it in one of our recipes. For the period up to June 2009 this course is free to all schools and we even offer a contribution towards transport.
